That’s a wrap! The “Summer Smackdown” is upon us. We’ve all been there…while summer is a great time to kick back on the beach, live it up at family bbqs, travel and enjoy life, all that fun can leave you feeling sluggish, bloated, and out of sorts
As a FASTer Way Coach, I understand the overwhelm that comes from trying to strike a balance between living a healthy lifestyle and living REAL LIFE!
I never expect myself or any of my clients to be perfect with nutrition and fitness every day, so rather than beating yourself about what happened to derail you, focus on having the right mindset and a set of non-negotiables that will help you get back on track, so you can stay on track moving forward.
You have to set the wheels in motion with realistic expectations of yourself.
When you come back from vacation or a summer full of fun, you probably hate how you feel. You’re worried that everything you just ate and drank, and all the workouts that you missed are going to erase all the hard work you’ve put in. This leaves you disappointed that you couldn’t be “perfect” while you were away, so you set out with an all or nothing mindset, determined to make things right again.
This, my friend, is right where you need to pump the brakes.
That all or nothing mindset will get you anywhere but back on track! In fact, expecting yourself to be perfect while you’re away from your normal routine, and then setting yourself up to do all the things when you’re just trying to get back on track, will leave you broken and depleted, and you will not be able to keep up.
If you’ve done this to yourself in the past and felt like a failure for burning out and quitting, let me be the first to tell you, your failed attempts at getting back on track aren’t the result of your lack of effort or inability to stay focused. Your failed attempts are the result of your need to be PERFECT!
Instead of punishing yourself and suffering to speed up the process, try approaching this from a new perspective.
Three things you can start doing today to get back on track and build momentum through every season of your life!
Live by this daily! Some days aren’t going to go as planned–that’s REAL LIFE! If you can only do one thing each day to move the needle, that progress will add up to HUGE gains over time. Try to develop an 80/20 approach so that there’s space for you to be human and LIVE YOUR LIFE!
Come up with 3 non-negotiables that you feel are realistic goals for you every day.
Having 3 small things that you know you can accomplish every day, sets you up to win no matter what. If you’re not celebrating small wins each and every day, you may easily lose your way and forget where to even start again. Small things also leave room for growth which is the only way to build momentum.
My 3 non-negotiables:
These are things I know I can do no matter where I am and sticking to these when I’m out of my normal routine will help me stay consistent so I can pick up where I left off when I return.
Craft a simple, selfcare morning routine that you can always fall back on no matter what you have going on.
A morning routine doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Your goal with this is to do 1-3 activities that help you move closer to your goals and support your desired emotions. For example: If you’re a person that wants to feel more at peace, energetic, and healthier, your morning routine might consist of drinking 8 oz of water with your daily vitamins, reading a five minute devotional, and getting dressed to go exercise.
This is one non-negotiable that can help you kick start your fresh start, download the Protein Guide.
